FOUNDER
In 1981, Joe Conrado took a chance and purchased the company that he worked for - Highland West. Over three decades, MSG has grown to encompass five ready mix plants, two gravel mines and over two dozen delivery trucks. Joe took great pride in building Meeker Sand & Gravel based on the premises of hard work, efficiency, forward thinking and most importantly, providing customers with a high quality end product. Over 30 years, he has seen the economy boom and bust. He has seen mixer trucks hoisted into and out of jobsites by bulldozers. He has watched his concrete build strong foundations for the Lake Avery Dam, the Highway 13 bridge overpass, the Enterprise Gas Plant on Piceance Creek, the ERBM Rec Center, CNCC Campus in Craig, Meeker Elementary School and most recently the new Pioneers Medical Center facility. But his proudest moment has been watching son, Dan, and daughter, Katie, take those foundations built over the past 30 years into the future with Meeker Sand & Gravel.
From the time his feet could touch the pedals, Dan has been running loaders, and feeding wash plants at Meeker Sand & Gravel. While in high school, Dan began pursuing a study of business, attending HOBI’s business camp at the University of Colorado which set the tone for him to attend the university and obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Business. During his time at CU, Dan also interned with the CATO Institute in Washington D.C. After graduating, Dan returned to the family business – helping to mobilize and grow the company’s 3rd and 4th plant s at the Craig and Piceance Creek locations. Dan can be found putting the pencil to the paper to provide competitive quotes and pricing to contractors, batching concrete, creating mix designs, testing concrete samples, operating equipment, driving trucks and ensuring the highest quality product is being created for our customers. Dan enjoys the many challenges that come along with owning a small business: the opportunities to create strong relationships with customers and contractors, striving for efficiency and productivity to offer high quality products at competitive prices and being able to give back to the community where we live. Dan is currently is serving his second term as Trustee on the Town of Meeker Board and has also served on the Freeman Fairfield Scholarship Committee and the St. James vestry.
Dan received his MBA from the University of Denver in 2020. Dan thrives on looking toward the
future in a sustainable, achievable way. This includes spearheading MSG’s effort to become a Benefit Corp, which would be the first of its kind in the ready mixed concrete industry and sets a strict precedent which requires the company to be transparent, community/employee oriented and sustainably based.
V. President; Safety/Compliance, QC & HR
Katie grew up with the family business, watching hard work translate into the sense of pride that comes with accomplishing a task at hand. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University and working as Marketing Director of a retail center, Katie traded in her high heels and business attire for steel-toes and Carhartts to join the family business. While it started out as an “office” job, she soon found herself in the operator’s seats of loaders, excavators and skidsters. On any given day, you can find Katie operating equipment, interviewing new hires, batching concrete, conducting safety meetings/training and serving as QC on jobsites. Katie enjoys operating equipment and the satisfaction of watching rocks being crushed, screened and washed until they eventually form the foundation of things that are important in our lives: homes, schools, roads, hospitals and so much more. Katie has been honored to serve on the Meeker Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the St. James vestry as well as serving as president of the local P.E.O. Chapter, which promotes educational opportunities for women.
Katie is also an ACI certified Field Testing Technician, and often can be found on jobsites ensuring conformance with project specifications.
Accounting
Kelly has been a fixture on the backside of MSG since its very inception. Working diligently behind the scenes, and most often behind the screen of a computer, she has provided financial acuity to our company for over 40 years. She serves as bookkeeper, accountant, sales tax extraordinaire as well as a wife to Joe and mother to Dan and Katie.
